Good People & People of Faith,

This message has info on:

1) Brief video of "Fatherless Day" -- what's the message?
2) Creating empathy - Actions still speak louder than words.
3) Father's Day 2014 - peacefully hand-cuffed because you love your kids?
4) SupportTheMove - See it June 20th in Cherry Hill, New Jersey!

*1) Brief video of "Fatherless Day"*

I went to a "Fatherless Day" Rally in New York last year. It was a
beautiful day! I met a bunch of nice people. I took a video you really
have to watch (only 80 seconds) --http://youtu.be/8ofDQtrsPAs

*What was the message?* Imagine walking by the Rally. Answer a simple
question -- What do these 'protesters' want? How do you feel when you
hear them? Be fair in your answer. Go back to before your family got
trapped in the "system." When you were just a regular person and didn't
give any more thought to Family Law reform than you did to the monetary
crisis. What has these people so wound up?

Did you CARE before it happened to you? Funny, we expect our
politicians to pay immediate attention to this 'national crisis' -- but
they are only following our example. It hasn't happened to them....

*2) Creating empathy - Actions still speak louder than words.*

Empathy - the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive
to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience
of another of either the past or present without having the feelings,
thoughts, and experience in an explicit manner /(origin:////from Greek
//empatheia//(from //em-//'in' + //pathos//'feeling') /////

I think a lot you have also noticed this in the "Internet Age." It's
easy to get people to 'talk', much hard to get people to 'do', and
really hard when it involves peaceful & voluntary personal sacrifice.

I had a pretty wise aid to US Senator once tell me, "John, before any of
this reform will happen -- you need a 'sea change' in public opinion."

External force, bad-mouthing, ridicule only produce external change.
We need to change how people feel from within-- empathy!!! Some of the
best examples I could find: Martin Luther King
<http://www.akidsright.org/p_martin.htm>, Gandhi
<http://www.akidsright.org/p_gandhi.htm>, Francis of Assisi
<http://www.akidsright.org/p_assisi.htm> & of course, Jesus of Nazareth
<http://www.akidsright.org/p_jesus.htm>.

*3. Father's Day 2014 - Senator Schumer & NonViolent Action Resumes!*

I've taken a break for a few years from NonViolent Action for reform.
Not because I thought the goal was unattainable, or I was tired of being
arrested & jailed (48 times!)
(http://www.akidsright.org/arrests_jail.htm), but to stabilize my finances.

I'd had to borrow money from a couple of good friends to make ends
meet. Finally, after about 15 years of struggle,my former spouse and I
finally settled in late 2011 (http://www.akidsright.org/support_jm.htm
<http://www.akidsright.org/support_jm.htm>). Domenic was getting ready
to start college, he & I talked about our 'future' plans. He understood
my commitment to reform (and possible arrest) and to also help him with
college expenses (he is ending his Sophomore year now).

NonViolent action is a about 'self' sacrifice and I never wanted to be
in a position where I needed funding from friends (this was not their
battle). If I was going to continue things had to be stable. Once I
could 'drive' again, I have been able to find good work and take care of
things. By Mother's day of next year I hope to be ready for more action.

Only once have I had someone join me who was willing to be hand-cuffed
to demonstrate the injustice of the system and the love she had for her
children (/haven't had a father willing to join yet, but hopeful that
will change soon/).

*In January of 2005, a mother, Cathy Hughes joined me outside the
Syracuse Federal Building*. Federal police and an Asst. US Attorney
watched from the doors as she and I took kid's chalk and wrote "I LOVE
YOU" and "Sen. Clinton HELP US" on the pavement outside -- they did not
take any action and we got some TV Coverage
(http://www.akidsright.org/actionc_syr/index.htm#cathy).

Senator Clinton has moved on, but we have Senator Schumer. A very
intelligent man and concerned about Civil Rights. As we did with
Senator Clinton, we will first attempt to engage his staff in dialog
about Family Rights and getting him personally to discuss/endorse the
need for a Family Rights Act
(http://www.akidsright.org/parental_notification/family-rights-poster.pdf).

You can check our Legislative Action section
<http://www.akidsright.org/legislative.htm> for what we have done in the
past.

We will begin these efforts in the Fall and give the Senator plenty of
time to respond and engage the members of our group in personal 'public'
dialog. If he does not have time to speak with us -- we will be ready
to take action next Mother's Day & Father's Day. Before 'politicians'
will think our cause is important, we need to demonstrate it really is
important.

I should be ready and I ask all of you to think and plan. People can
help in many ways, but I do need at least ONE Mother and ONE Father who,
like Cathy, would be willing to join me and risk arrest. We'll be there
to demonstrate the great love we have for our children and our quiet
actions will speak louder than any words.

Give it some thought. We even have a self-evaluation checklist
<http://www.akidsright.org/checklist.htm> to help.

*4. SupportTheMovie (our movie) - see it June 20th!*

Many of you have heard about one of the best documentaries regarding
Family Rights. It shows the damage our present "systems" of Family Law
cause to the entire Family. "Support? System Down" was released a few
years ago and you can see some excellent trailers at the site
(http://www.SupportTheMovie.com/).

It will be showing in Cherry Hill, New Jersey (just East of
Philadelphia), on June 20th. See complete details on time & location via
the link below. I plan to be there and hope to see some of you! These
events give us a nice opportunity to meet face-to-face.
